Cemented carbide substrate

Different shapes and sizes of cemented carbide provide strong support to the diamond working surface.

Bond interface

Bond strength is enhanced by various patterns of bond interface between the diamond layer and the carbide. Generally it requires a larger contact area, and even distribution, symmetry and cambered shape of the patterns.

Diamond working surface

The diamond working surface is the hardest material known. The height of the diamond layer varies with application and productivity.

Diamond layer chamfer

The diamond working surface should be chamfered according to the drilling application in order to improve cutting ability and prolong working life.

Carbide chamfer

A chamfered cemented carbide bottom increases brazing or sintering strength by enlarging the contact area with the bit body. Stress concentration is reduced by the smooth contact area.

Diamond working surface polishing

In the past, diamond working surfaces were polished to reduce friction against rock debris and prolong service life. Nowadays, the latest PDC with high abrasion resistance has made the polishing process unnecessary.
